Recruitment process

Personality profile

In preparation for the Selection Interview stage, all candidates are required to complete a personality or work preference profiling questionnaire. The questionnaire used is a well-researched profiling instrument used to assess personality traits and work-related preferences.

The Work Preference Profile is not a pass-or-fail stage of the process. The results of the profiling provide the selection panel with valuable insights into candidate style and work preferences. It will help highlight the different strengths each person brings to their team, as well as potential areas where they may need development or support.

This profiling is administered and supervised online by an external provider on behalf of Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV). The questionnaire is untimed, generally taking around an hour to complete. It consists of a series of true/false statements and some scale-based ratings. None of the questions are difficult to answer, they are questions about you, what you do and don’t like and your types of experiences. This part of the process is one you don’t need to prepare for – answering honestly and being your natural self are the most important things to remember for this stage.

Candidates successful in making it through to the Work Preference Profile stage will receive an email from our external provider, Psychometric Solutions & Innovations (PSI). They will provide information about the work preference profiling and access to book an online supervised session. As the results are processed by an external provider, candidates will be asked to provide consent for their information to be shared with FRV at the commencement of the questionnaire.
